Gratien Le Père
Gratien Le Père (2 June 1769 – 1 August 1826) was a French civil engineer from Versailles. He studied with Napoleon Bonaparte at Brienne and later worked for Ponts et Chaussées, the government department that builds bridges and roads. He and his brother Jacques-Marie Le Père joined the French campaigns in Egypt and Syria and helped lead early plans to build a canal through the Suez Isthmus.
