HNLMS Tijgerhaai (S807)
HNLMS Tijgerhaai (S807) was a Dutch Zwaardvis-class submarine of the Royal Netherlands Navy. The name Tijgerhaai means Tiger Shark. It was built in Rotterdam by Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij (RDM). The keel was laid on 14 July 1966, it was launched on 25 May 1971 and commissioned on 20 October 1972.
The submarine carried six 21-inch torpedo tubes at the bow. It displaced about 2,350 tons on the surface and about 2,620 tons submerged. It was roughly 66.9 meters long, 8.4 meters wide, and 7.1 meters deep. Propulsion came from three diesel engines and one electric motor, giving a top speed of about 13 knots on the surface and 20 knots submerged. The crew numbered around 65 to 67 sailors.
During its service Tijgerhaai took part in numerous exercises and visits. Notable activities include an exercise in November 1972 with the submarine Dolfijn and air units; a visit to Scotland in 1990; trips to Norway and Scotland in 1991; participation in the TFX exercise in 1993; trips to the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Mediterranean in 1993; and NATO exercise Isle d'or in 1994. It also joined exercises with German and English ships.
The submarine was decommissioned in 1996. Although several countries showed interest in buying it, no sale occurred. Tijgerhaai was scrapped in Malaysia in 2006.
