Ardnahoe distillery
Ardnahoe is a Scotch whisky distillery on the island of Islay in Scotland. It sits on the northeast coast, just north of Port Askaig, between the Caol Ila and Bunnahabhain distilleries. The name Ardnahoe means “Height of the Hollow” in Gaelic, a reference to the nearby lake.
Plans were submitted in January 2016 and by October 2017 construction was underway. Ardnahoe opened in April 2019, the first new distillery on Islay in 15 years. It was opened by Lord Robertson of Port Ellen. The project started with about £12 million from Hunter Laing & Company.
The site covers four acres. The management team is led by Stewart Hunter Laing and his sons Scott and Andrew. By November 2019, the distillery had welcomed about 24,000 visitors and earned a five-star rating from VisitScotland.
Ardnahoe released its first whisky in the summer of 2024. The spirit is five years old and aged in ex-Bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks. The distillery includes a visitor center with a shop and a whisky bar. It uses old-style worm tubs in the distillation process, which is unusual for Islay whiskies.
