Gum Tayeng
Gum Tayeng is an Indian politician from Arunachal Pradesh. She serves as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the 42-Dambuk (ST) constituency and has held the position since May 2014. She is currently a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has previously been affiliated with the Indian National Congress (INC).
Early life and career:
Gum Tayeng was born in Dambuk. She studied at Lady Keane College in Shillong, where she completed Pre-University College in 1962. She later worked as a schoolteacher for several years.
Political career:
In 2013, she was elected unopposed to the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Dambuk as an INC candidate in a by-election. She is the widow of Jomin Tayeng, who had been elected from Dambuk in 2009. In the 2014 elections, Tayeng again stood as the INC candidate in Dambuk and was one of only six women contestants in the state that year.
Personal life:
Gum Tayeng is married to Jomin Tayeng and they have three sons and one daughter. She studied at Lady Keane College, Shillong.
