Greenhalgh Mountain
Greenhalgh Mountain is a 13,220-foot peak in San Juan County, Colorado, in the San Juan Mountains of the Rocky Mountains. It sits about nine miles east-southeast of Silverton, within Rio Grande National Forest, just east of the Continental Divide. The summit rises about 2,400 feet above the Rio Grande over roughly 1.25 miles. Nearby peaks include Sheep Mountain to the west and Canby Mountain to the northwest. The easiest route is a class 2 hike, suitable for many hikers.
The name Greenhalgh Mountain was officially adopted by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names and has appeared in maps and publications since at least 1906. The climate is alpine subarctic, with cold winters and cool to warm summers. Precipitation occurs year-round—snow in winter and thunderstorms in summer—with a drier period in late spring. Runoff from the mountain drains into tributaries of the Rio Grande.
