Grallaria is a large group of Neotropical birds known as antpittas. They belong to the family Grallariidae. The genus was created by French naturalist Louis Pierre Vieillot in 1816, with the variegated antpitta (Grallaria varia) as the type species. The name Grallaria comes from Neo-Latin grallarius, meaning "stilt-walker." There are about 47 species in the genus.
