Ger Feeney
Ger Feeney (c. 1954 – 10 October 2010) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for Mayo. He came from Cortoon, Ballintubber, and attended Ballinafad College. One of the best players of the 1970s, he won a minor All-Ireland in 1971 and an Under-21 title in 1974. He made his Mayo championship debut in 1972 against Sligo at McHale Park in Castlebar.
His family also played for Mayo: his sons Richie and Alan, and his nephew John Feeney, were on the Mayo team. His brother Sean Feeney served as Mayo county secretary.
Ger Feeney and his close friend Donal McEllin drowned in a boating accident off Inishbofin in October 2010. He was survived by his wife Kathleen (née Caden) and their four children — Richie, Alan, Claire, and Darragh, who was 14 at the time and attended St Gerald’s College in Castlebar.
