George Lathan
George Lathan (5 August 1875 – 14 June 1942) was a British trade unionist and Labour politician. He worked on the railways and led the Railway Clerks Association, serving as president from 1906 to 1912 and then as chief assistant secretary until 1937. He joined the Labour Party and stood for Parliament several times, first contesting Watford in 1918. He also ran in Enfield in 1922 and in Sheffield Park in 1923 and 1924. He finally won Sheffield Park in 1929, served until 1931, and was re-elected in 1935, holding the seat until his death. Lathan was a member of the Railways National Wages Board from 1921 to 1936 and was president of the National Federation of Professional Workers from 1921 to 1937. He chaired the Labour Party National Executive Committee from 1931 to 1932 and was party treasurer from 1936 until his death.
