George Brown (ice hockey)
George Allen Brown (May 17, 1912 – January 23, 1972) was a Canadian ice hockey centre who played 79 games in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens from 1937 to 1939. The rest of his career, from 1932 to 1943, was spent in the minor leagues.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Brown began his pro hockey with the Canadiens in the 1936–37 season, playing 27 regular-season games and scoring 4 goals and 6 assists (10 points). He also played 4 playoff games that year without scoring. In 1937–38 he split time between the Canadiens and the IAHL’s New Haven Eagles, again going without playoff points. He finished his NHL career with another season in Montreal before moving to the IAHL for the remainder of his days, playing for the New Haven Eagles, then the Springfield Indians and the Hershey Bears.
Brown was 5 ft 11 in tall, weighed 185 lb, and shot left. He died in Verdun, Quebec, at age 59.
