Gems TV (UK)
Gems TV (UK), now known as Gemporia, is a British TV and online retailer that mainly sells jewellery, with occasional homeware and beauty items. It is licensed by Ofcom and operated by The Gemporia Partnership (Gemporia Ltd). The main studios are in Redditch, Worcestershire.
What it does
- Uses a reverse auction format to sell gemstone jewellery.
- Sells some homeware and beauty items in various slots.
- Available on Sky, Virgin Media, Freesat, Freeview, and online at gemporia.com, plus a Gemporia mobile app.
- As of February 2023, it broadcasts live on TV from 7:00 to 23:00 daily, with repeats outside those hours; 24/7 online and on the app.
History in brief
- Launched on 8 October 2004, replacing the Factory Outlet channel on Sky.
- Originally focused on affordable jewellery made in Chanthaburi, Thailand.
- Over time, moved to sourcing jewellery from other suppliers.
- In 2010, the Thai factory closed and Gems TV UK Limited was sold back to the founders, returning to private management.
- Freeview began carrying the channel in 2010 (channel 43, later moving through various numbers due to changes).
- The Gems TV family expanded to include Jewellery Maker (2010) and Gems TV Extra, Gem Collector, Rocks TV, and other formats; Gemporia Lifestyle launched in 2020.
Today
- Gems TV is part of Gemporia, a broader group of shopping channels and online services focused on jewellery and lifestyle products, with several sister channels and ongoing online offerings.
