Gary J. LaPaille (March 14, 1954 – December 1, 2022) was an American politician and businessman from Chicago, Illinois. He earned a business degree from Loyola University Chicago and began his political career in the ward office of Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, later becoming Madigan’s chief of staff.

LaPaille served as chair of the Illinois Democratic Party from 1990 to 1998. In 1990, Crain’s Chicago Business named him one of their 40 Under 40 in business and government. He was a Democratic member of the Illinois State Senate from the 11th district, serving from January 1993 to January 1995, and was the minority spokesman on the Local Government & Elections Committee. He also served on the Agriculture & Conservation and Financial Institutions committees.

In business, LaPaille was the Managing Director of Chestnut Hill Partners and the president of mCapitol Management, Inc., a political consulting firm. He was married to Christine and had three children, and he lived in Potomac, Maryland.

LaPaille died from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) on December 1, 2022, at age 68 in Potomac, Maryland.
