Prince Tsunenaga
Prince Tsunenaga (1324–May 5, 1338) was a son of Emperor Go-Daigo. He lived during the Nanboku-chō wars between the true Imperial line and the Ashikaga clan. In 1336 he and his brother Takanaga were sent by Nitta Yoshisada toward Echizen Province to escape the Ashikaga attacks. Some sources say Tsunenaga was secretly named heir, but other records do not confirm this. In November 1336 his brother Narinaga was officially named Crown Prince. As the Southern Court fled from Yoshino toward Echizen, Nitta moved the princes to Kanagasaki Castle. The castle was besieged from January 1337; by April those inside were starving, and the gates were stormed. Tsunenaga escaped but was captured and killed soon afterward.
