Gaby Rodgers
Gaby Rodgers (born Gabrielle Rosenberg; March 29, 1928) is a German-born American actress, theatre director, and journalist. She was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, to Jewish art dealer Saemy Rosenberg. She is the niece of art historian Jakob Rosenberg and the great-niece of philosopher Edmund Husserl. Her family fled the Nazi regime, moving first to Amsterdam, then London, and finally the United States as refugees. In Amsterdam, her family knew the Franks and she once played marbles with Anne Frank.
Rodgers appeared on television in the 1950s and is best known for playing Lily Carver in the 1955 film Kiss Me Deadly. She also acted in The Big Break (1953). She was on the cover of the January 1957 issue of Cosmopolitan, described as "The New Face of Broadway." Rodgers continued to act on stage and work as a director into the 21st century.
She was married for many years to lyricist Jerry Leiber, half of Leiber & Stoller. Leiber wrote famous songs such as Hound Dog and Jailhouse Rock. Rodgers is sometimes said to have co-written the song "Jackson" with Billy Edd Wheeler, but that is not true; Leiber wrote the song with Wheeler using his then-wife’s name as a pseudonym.
