Fossil Fuel: The XTC Singles 1977–92 is a compilation album by XTC, released in September 1996. It collects 31 singles XTC released on Virgin Records UK between 1977 and 1991, presented in chronological order. It is the band's third greatest-hits collection, following Waxworks: Some Singles 1977–1982 and The Compact XTC. The set covers only the band's Virgin singles and does not include their pseudonymous projects such as The Dukes of Stratosphear, The Three Wise Men, or The Colonel.

Two discs show XTC's changing popularity, with many UK hits on the first disc—such as Making Plans for Nigel, Sgt. Rock (Is Going to Help Me), and Senses Working Overtime—and several songs on the second disc that became popular on US college radio, including Dear God, Mayor of Simpleton, and The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead. The collection ends with Wrapped in Grey from 1992's Nonsuch, a single that Virgin recalled and deleted, effectively ending XTC's era with the label. Fossil Fuel reached No. 33 on the UK Albums Chart. Most tracks were written by Andy Partridge, with some exceptions noted in the track listing.
