Fernando de Mascarenhas
Fernando de Mascarenhas, 1st Count of Torre (c. 1610 – 9 August 1651) was a Portuguese military leader and colonial administrator. He served as governor-general of Brazil from 20 January to 20 November 1639, appointed by King Philip III. In mid-January 1640, he commanded 41 ships in a naval battle against the Dutch fleet led by Willem Loos. He fought mainly as part of the Spain–Portugal alliance. He died in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1651.
