Ferguson-Florissant School District
The Ferguson-Florissant School District (FFSD) is a public school system in the Greater St. Louis area of Missouri. The district’s headquarters are in Hazelwood, and it serves parts of 11 communities with more than 11,000 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. FFSD runs 24 schools: 17 elementary schools, four middle schools (one of which is a STEAM and Gifted Academy), and three high schools (accredited as A+ and NCA-CASI) plus an alternative school. It also offers early education programs and houses the Challenger Learning Center, a space education facility, and the Little Creek Nature Area, a 97-acre preserve used for hands-on science learning.
In 1975, a federal court ordered FFSD to annex the Berkeley and Kinloch school districts, so FFSD began serving those areas. In 2004, Berkeley High School closed and was replaced by McCluer South-Berkeley High School. Dr. Art J. McCoy II became superintendent in 2010, the district’s first African-American leader and one of the youngest superintendents in Missouri and the nation. Dr. Joseph S. Davis was named superintendent in 2015, starting July 1.
In 2018, the district restructured several programs: some were moved or closed at Airport Elementary, Mark Twain Alternative, and Vogt Elementary, and McCluer South was converted into a selective STEAM school. FFSD serves all or parts of Calverton Park and Kinloch, most of Berkeley and Ferguson, about half of Florissant, and portions of Dellwood, Hazelwood, Jennings, Normandy, and a part of Old Jamestown. Students with disabilities attend facilities run by the Special School District of St. Louis County (SSD), and SSD also runs North Technical High School in Florissant. The district’s former headquarters were in Florissant.
