Femme Schmidt
Femme Schmidt, also known as SCHMIDT, is a German singer and songwriter born Elisa Sophia Schmidt on February 14, 1990, in Koblenz, Germany. She grew up in Koblenz and started writing songs in English after visiting Hurtwood House in England at age 16. At 17 she spent a year in the United States, then finished school in Munich. She signed with Warner Music Group in June 2010 and has lived in Berlin and London.
Her first EP, Above Sin City, came out in October 2011, followed by her debut album, Femme SCHMIDT, in May 2012. The album entered the German iTunes charts at number 86. She collaborates with Guy Chambers on her music and has opened for Melanie C. Later in 2012 she was set to open for Elton John and Lionel Richie, and in 2017 she opened some shows for Coldplay’s A Head Full of Dreams Tour.
Schmidt describes her genre as pop noir, a mix of cabaret-jazz and modern pop. She draws inspiration from Marlene Dietrich, Kurt Weill, Billie Holiday, and Norah Jones. She is signed to Warner Music Germany and has been active as a singer and songwriter since 2010.
