Eyelash perm
Eyelash perming, or an eyelash perm, is a cosmetic treatment that uses perm chemicals to curl your lashes. It’s done only by licensed cosmetologists.
During the procedure, lashes are lifted and held in place on a small rod, silicone pad, or a plastic tool to shape the curl. A perm solution is applied for about 10–15 minutes, then a neutralizer is left on for another 10–15 minutes. Some systems finish with a nourishing oil to condition the lashes and make glue easier to remove.
There are different shaping options:
- A soft rod or sponge at the base for a curl.
- Silicone pads of various sizes for a more natural look.
- A plastic tool that grips the lashes like a curler.
The lashes are attached with a safe glue, the perm solution is applied, then the neutralizer, and finally the lashes are cleaned. The whole process takes about 30–45 minutes.
Results typically last 2–3 months. The chemical changes the lash structure so they stay curled until they shed and regrow.
Safety and rules:
- A licensed cosmetologist must perform the procedure.
- In every state, a valid cosmetology license is required.
- The procedure uses strong chemicals, so there is some risk of stinging or lash damage.
- The FDA has not approved this procedure for use around the eyes.
