Embassy of the United States, Pristina
The U.S. Embassy in Pristina is the American diplomatic mission in Kosovo. Kosovo declared independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008, and the United States recognized it and established diplomatic relations the next day. The U.S. Embassy in Pristina opened on April 8, 2008, led by Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Tina Kaidanow.
The embassy is located in Pristina, Kosovo. The website is xk.usembassy.gov.
The mission has faced issues with poor air quality and unreliable electricity and internet service.
In May 2023, the embassy announced sanctions against Kosovo after tensions in the northern region. Ambassador Jeff Hovenier said Kosovo would be excluded from the Air Defender 23 military exercise. He also urged the Kosovo government to withdraw police from key municipal buildings in Zubin Potok, Leposavić, and Zvečan. The move followed pressure from U.S. senators for Kosovo to sign a peace deal with Serbia.
There is one Consulate General that functions as an embassy, with the consul reporting to the U.S. State Department rather than to the local country's ambassador.
