Edge East Side Tower
Edge East Side Tower
Edge East Side Tower is a 36-story office skyscraper in the Friedrichshain district of Berlin, Germany. It stands about 142 meters (466 feet) tall and was the tallest building in Berlin when completed in 2023, until the Estrel Tower was finished. Construction began in 2019 and was completed in 2023.
The building was designed by the Danish architecture firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). The main tenant is Amazon. The project was developed by Edge (a subsidiary of OVG Real Estate) and is owned by Allianz Real Estate and Universal-Investment, with Bayerische Versorgungskammer as the final investor.
Location and design: The tower sits west of Warschauer Street near the East Side Gallery and is part of the Mediaspree development. It offers about 65,000 square meters of office space, arranged on a rectangular base with a curtain wall that rises up the height. The first two floors are public and include restaurants, cafés, and event spaces; a rooftop bar was planned. It uses double-decker elevators by KONE.
Key milestones: foundation laid January 2021; topping-out October 2022; glazing completed March 2023; handover to new owners January 2024. Amazon planned to move in by the end of 2024, with some public areas on the ground and top floors.
