Donald Bryan

Donald Bryan is the former Acting Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance. A long-time employee of the department, he also served as Director of the Division of Insurance from 1999 to 2006 and had two separate periods as acting commissioner.

His first term as acting commissioner was from October 2001 to February 2002, serving under Governors Donald DiFrancesco and James McGreevey. He was reappointed in 2004 by Governor Richard Codey and remained in that role for the duration of the Codey administration. When Governor Jon Corzine took office, Bryan was kept on for a few weeks at the start of Corzine’s term while a new commissioner was sought. In February 2006, Corzine nominated Steven M. Goldman to succeed him.

Bryan is a graduate of the University of Virginia and Rutgers University School of Law.
