Dick Woodard
Dick Woodard (Richard Ernest Woodard) was an American football center who played in the NFL and AAFC. He was born July 26, 1926, in Britt, Iowa, and died August 24, 2019, in Clinton, Iowa, at age 93. He was 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighed 224 pounds. He attended Fort Dodge High School in Iowa and played college football at the University of Iowa. He was chosen in the 21st round of the 1948 NFL draft, 186th overall, by the New York Giants.
He played for the Los Angeles Dons in the AAFC in 1949, then spent time with the New York Giants (1950–1951, 1953) and the Washington Redskins (1952). Over his professional career, he appeared in 47 games, started 12, and recorded 6 interceptions and 4 fumble recoveries. In 1948, he earned honorable mention on the All-Big Nine team.
