Denman Maroney
Denman Maroney (born 1949) is an American jazz pianist who created “hyperpiano,” a style that mixes traditional keyboard playing with other sound-making techniques. In hyperpiano, he stops, slides, bows, plucks, strikes, and strums the strings using copper bars, aluminum bowls, rubber blocks, plastic boxes, and other household objects. He sometimes plays with one hand while the other hits the keys. Maroney has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and has made a new soundtrack for the silent film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
