De Peyster is a small town in St. Lawrence County, New York, United States. It covers about 45 square miles, mostly land with a few lakes and streams. The population was about 1,023 in 2020. Major roads include New York Route 812 in the northern part and Route 184 running northeast–southwest.

The town was first settled around 1802 and officially formed in 1825 from parts of DeKalb and Oswegatchie. It was named after Frederic de Peyster, a landowner; his grandson was John Watts de Peyster.

Geographically, the Oswegatchie River marks the northeast border, Black Lake is on the northwest, Mud Lake lies in the southwest, and Beaver Creek forms the southeast edge.

Notable people linked to De Peyster include Newton Martin Curtis, born there, who was a Medal of Honor recipient and served as postmaster, brigadier general, and customs inspector. Patty Ritchie, a New York State Senator, was raised in De Peyster.
