Dazz
Dazz is a song by the R&B/funk band Brick, released in 1976 from their debut album Good High. The track blends disco, funk, and jazz, which is why it’s called Dazz (a mix of “Disco” and “Jazz”). It came out on July 6, 1976. The 7-inch single had the B-side “Southern Sunset,” while the 12-inch version used “Music Matic” as the B-side. The radio version runs 3:23 and the full version 5:35. Dazz was released on Bang Records and was written by Regi Hargis, Eddie Irons, and Ray Ransom, with production by Jim Healy, Johnny Duncan, Robert E. Lee, and Brick.
Dazz became Brick’s biggest hit, spending four weeks at No. 1 on the R&B singles chart, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 41 on Billboard’s year-end chart. It peaked at No. 26 in Canada. The Dazz Band later took its name from this song. The track has appeared in films such as The Nice Guys (2016) and Rocketman (2019) and has been sampled by many artists.
