David Martínez (footballer, born 1998)
Héctor David Martínez (born 21 January 1998) is an Argentine-born footballer who plays as a centre-back for Defensa y Justicia, on loan from River Plate. He also represents the Paraguay national team.
Born in Buenos Aires, Martínez is of Paraguayan descent through his mother. He came through River Plate’s youth system and made his first-team debut in 2018. In 2019 he was loaned to Defensa y Justicia, where he played regularly and helped the team on their way back to the Primera División. Defensa y Justicia made the move permanent in 2020.
Martínez has spent time on loan at River Plate (2021–2022 and 2023) and later joined Inter Miami on loan (2024–2025). In 2025 he was loaned to Olimpia, and in 2026 he returned to Defensa y Justicia on loan.
Internationally, Martínez played for Argentina at the U17 level in 2015. He switched to Paraguay and made his senior debut for Paraguay on 14 June 2021 in a Copa América win over Bolivia. He has continued to represent Paraguay since then.
