Daughters of Darkness and the Chronicles of Santon
Daughters of Darkness and the Chronicles of Santon is a 1990 RuneQuest adventure published by Avalon Hill. In this module, player characters contend with notable adversaries Cruella and Captain Ahab.
Background: By 1989, Chaosium had stopped working with Avalon Hill for financial reasons, so Avalon Hill kept RuneQuest alive by publishing material outside the core Glorantha setting. Instead of returning to their familiar Fantasy Earth, they released two standalone fantasy books in 1990—Daughters of Darkness and Eldarad. Fans widely derided these titles for not fitting the RuneQuest game system, except for use in campaigns created by the authors themselves.
Reception: Phillip Hessel reviewed Daughters of Darkness in White Wolf magazine (Issue 43, May 1994) and gave it 3 out of 5. He said the book is useful for ideas to weave into an existing campaign, but if players’ characters don’t stay in one place long enough to learn about the locals, the book can be less rewarding.
