H. Richard Greene
H. Richard Greene, sometimes credited as Richard Greene, is an American actor, acting coach, and UCLA guest professor. He has appeared on many TV shows, including Matlock, According to Jim, Ally McBeal, Boston Legal, Cold Case, The Mentalist, NYPD Blue, Cybill, The Wonder Years (as Winnie Cooper’s dad), The West Wing (as Senator Robert Royce), and Mad Men.
In a controversial Riptide episode called “If You Can’t Beat Em, Join Em,” he played Cary Russell, a parody of Bruce Willis’s David Addison from Moonlighting. The episode drew press attention, and he later appeared on Moonlighting as a different character.
Greene’s work also includes TV movies such as Journey of the Heart and a small role in Armageddon. On stage, his New York City debut was as MacDuff in Macbeth with Rip Torn and Geraldine Page. His Broadway credits include The Survivor and Romeo and Juliet, and he toured internationally with Brighton Beach Memoirs. He was a resident member of the Repertory Theatre of Lincoln Center and played The Headmaster in The History Boys on the West Coast. He has voice work credits, including narrating Rugrats and voicing Hot Coldman in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and James Johnson in Metal Gear Solid 2: Digital Graphic Novel.
Greene teaches at UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television. He has been married to actress Lynn Milgrim since 1980, and they played Jim and Evelyn Cooper on The Wonder Years.
