Darren Dietz is a Canadian-Kazakhstani professional ice hockey defenceman born on July 17, 1993, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. He is 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighs 209 pounds, and shoots right. He currently plays for Avangard Omsk in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) after signing a two-year extension for the 2024–25 season. He also represents Kazakhstan internationally.

Dietz was drafted 138th overall in 2011 by the Montreal Canadiens. He played junior hockey for the Saskatoon Blades in the WHL and was named to the 2013 WHL East First All-Star Team. After attending Montreal’s training camp in 2013, he was sent to the Hamilton Bulldogs in the AHL. The Canadiens did not offer him a contract after the 2015–16 season.

In 2016, Dietz signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Washington Capitals and played for the Hershey Bears in the 2016–17 season, with 6 goals and 12 points in 39 games. He was loaned to the Texas Stars in March 2017, recording 2 assists in 13 games. The Capitals did not re-sign him.

Dietz then moved to the KHL, signing with Barys Astana in 2017. He served as captain of Barys Nur-Sultan for five seasons and had 21 points in 34 games in the 2021–22 season before being traded to CSKA Moscow in December 2021.

After three seasons with CSKA Moscow, Dietz was traded to Avangard Omsk on May 2, 2024, and signed a two-year extension to stay with Avangard starting in the 2024–25 season. He has also played for the Kazakhstan national team.
