Daniel Salaverry
Daniel Enrique Salaverry Villa (born 7 August 1972 in Trujillo, Peru) is an architect, businessman and politician. He studied architecture at Antenor Orrego Private University and built a career in business before entering politics. He served as Provincial Councillor of Trujillo from 2007 to 2010 and ran for Mayor of Trujillo in 2010 and again in 2014, though he did not win. He has been part of several parties over the years: the Peruvian Aprista Party (2002–2014), Popular Force (2016–2019), and We Are Peru (2020–present).
Salaverry was elected to Congress representing La Libertad in 2016 with Popular Force, where he served as the party’s spokesperson for a year. He was President of the Congress from July 2018 to July 2019. In 2019 he left Popular Force and briefly joined another congressional group to seek reelection as president of Congress, but he was defeated by Pedro Olaechea. He was suspended from Congress for 120 days in September 2019 over allegations related to his reports, and in 2021 he faced an open investigation by the Public Ministry for alleged falsification of reports during his time as a congressman. Salaverry ran for President of Peru in the 2021 general elections with the We Are Peru party, which he had joined in 2020.
