Curiosity & the Cat
Curiosity & the Cat is a German thriller-drama film from 1999. It was written and directed by Christian Alvart. The story follows a German writer who becomes curious about the violent, sadomasochistic lives of his neighbor’s tenants. He starts drilling holes in walls to spy on them and becomes obsessed, while he neglects his British girlfriend. The film stars Konstantin Graudus, Detlef Lutz, Andreas Erfurth, and Nadeshda Brennicke. It was filmed in Berlin and runs about 80 minutes. The estimated budget was $45,000. The tagline is "Watch Your Neighbor." A notable shot shows Henri washing himself in front of three mirrors, creating four reflections. The music "Come to Daddy" by Aphex Twin is used twice in the film. A disclaimer says the events are fictional and not about real people, and that no animals or small children were harmed during production. It premiered at the Max Ophüls Festival in Germany on January 21, 1999, and later in Iceland on November 11, 2000.
