Cumberland County was a short‑lived county in the Vermont Republic from 1778 to 1781. It was created on March 17, 1778, from parts of Cumberland and Gloucester counties in New York that Vermont claimed. It was called Unity County until March 21, 1778. In 1781 the county was split into three new counties: Orange, Windham, and Windsor. Today the area is part of the state of Vermont in the United States.
