Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is a professional Twenty20 cricket team from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. They play in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which began in 2008, and CSK was one of the eight founding teams. They host home games at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai, a venue that seats about 38,000, and they wear yellow. The team is owned by Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited.
CSK is one of the IPL’s most successful clubs, with five titles (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, 2023) and two Champions League Twenty20 titles (2010, 2014). They have reached ten IPL finals and made the playoffs many times. The franchise was suspended for two years (2015–2017) over a betting scandal involving owners, but returned in 2018 and won the title. In 2022, CSK became India’s first unicorn sports company, valued around $1.15 billion.
MS Dhoni captained the team from its start in 2008 until 2023 and briefly returned as captain in 2025 after Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined by injury. Gaikwad was appointed captain before the 2024 season, and Stephen Fleming is the head coach. The team’s fans are known as the Yellow Army, and their anthem is Whistle Podu. CSK maintains a strong rivalry with Mumbai Indians and a regional “Southern derby” with Royal Challengers Bangalore.
