Carla Monroe (also credited as Carla Nash) is a British singer from East London with Dominican roots. She wrote MK’s 2017 hit “17” and sang on it, although her vocals were uncredited; at the time she worked a day job in a prison. “17” reached No. 7 on the UK Singles Chart. She later collaborated with MK again on “2AM” (2020).

Monroe has worked with many artists across dance and electronic music. She appeared on Statin’s “Apple Juice” (2018) and on Moti and Thrdlife’s “Worst In Me” (2019), then on Moti’s “Tribe” (2019). She teamed with Sultan + Shepard on “Deeper” (2019) and with Zookeper on “Rain Drops” (2020). In 2021 she and NERVO released “Gotta Be You,” a track she helped write with Leftwing: Kody, Camden Cox, and Richard X a year earlier. Her solo work includes “Shapes” (Feb 26, 2021), a song she began after the March 2020 UK lockdown, even writing a verse while queuing in a supermarket, and “22 Love” (Jul 22, 2022).

On Sept 17, 2021, she featured on D.O.D.’s “Still Sleepless,” which peaked at No. 46 on the UK Singles Chart and spent 23 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the UK Independent Singles Breakers Chart. She also released “Overdrive” with Syn Cole (Apr 8, 2022) and later featured on Sam Green’s “Jam Inside Your Love” (Mar 31, 2023).

Monroe is known for singing with a strong vibrato. She has cited Mariah Carey and Sia as inspirations, and Jazzy has said she is an inspiration to them.
