Bulgarian Left
Bulgarian Left (BL) is a democratic socialist political party in Bulgaria. It was created in February 2009, mainly by members of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, with a founding congress on April 4, 2009. Its leaders are Hristofor Dochev, Ivan Genov, and Margarita Mileva. BL is a full member of the Party of the European Left since 2010. The party is known for its progressive views, including support for LGBT rights, and it publicly backed Sofia Pride in 2014.
In elections BL has usually received small amounts of support and has not won seats in parliament. Examples include 2009 (about 0.21%), 2013 (about 0.17%), 2014 (about 0.21%), 2017 (about 0.08%), and April 2021 (about 0.07%). In the November 2021 general election, BL ran with allies and won around 10% of the vote but did not gain any seats. For the 2024 parliamentary and European elections, BL joined the Solidary Bulgaria coalition. BL is part of the Bulgarian Left Coalition nationally and is affiliated with the Party of the European Left in Europe. Its color is red, and it is headquartered in Sofia.
