Brond (TV series)
Brond is a British three-part drama that aired on Channel 4 in May 1987. Based on Frederic Lindsay’s novel Brond, the series was directed by Michael Caton-Jones. It stars Stratford Johns as Brond, an amoral leader of a Scottish liberation group, with John Hannah as Robert, a Glasgow University student who witnesses Brond murder a boy and later becomes drawn into Brond’s violent world. The cast also includes Louise Beattie and James Cosmo. Set in Glasgow, this thriller follows how a single encounter pulls Robert into a dangerous chain of events. The music was composed by Bill Nelson (with Daryl Runswick) and released under the band Scala. Production took place in Glasgow, with Gareth Wardell as executive producer and Paddy Higson as producer. The three 60-minute episodes ran from 13 to 27 May 1987. In 2005, the Brond novel was named one of the 100 Best Scottish Books of All Time. A DVD box set, Brond – The Complete Series, was released by Simply Media on 30 July 2018.
