British Museum Act 1902

The British Museum Act 1902 was a law passed by the UK Parliament. It received Royal Assent on 22 July 1902. The act allowed the Trustees of the British Museum to move newspapers and other printed matter that were rarely needed for public use from the main museum buildings to a new storage building at Hendon. The materials could still be consulted at the main buildings on request, and they were stored in what became the British Library Newspapers section in Colindale. The act applied to the United Kingdom and is cited as 2 Edw.7. c.12. It was repealed on 30 September 1963 by the British Museum Act 1963 (section 13(5) and Schedule 4). Status: Repealed.
