Braceville, Illinois
Braceville is a small village in Illinois, located mainly in Grundy County with a part in Will County. It covers about 3.34 square miles, most of it land, and had a population of 724 at the 2020 census.
History and highlights
Braceville started in 1834 as Sulphur Springs, founded by Reverend L. S. Robbins. After Robbins died, the town’s first official supervisor, B. R. Dowd, renamed it Braceville after Braceville Township, Ohio. The area attracted interest in coal, but no mines were opened, so the town shifted to other industries. A notable arch bridge near the town carried roads for a long time; it was closed in 1994 and removed in 2000.

In 2020, Braceville had 724 residents living in 288 households and 202 families. The population density was about 217 people per square mile. The community is mostly White (about 92%), with small numbers of other races and about 4.8% Hispanic or Latino.
