Boddepalli Rajagopala Rao
Boddepalli Rajagopala Rao (12 March 1923 – 22 February 1992) was an Indian politician from Andhra Pradesh. He represented the Srikakulam constituency in the Lok Sabha for six terms: 1952–1967 (the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Lok Sabha) and 1971–1984 (the 5th to 7th Lok Sabha). He began his political career at the Panchayat level, was elected first as an Independent, and later joined the Indian National Congress. He also served as director of the Andhra Pradesh State Co-operative Bank in Hyderabad for six years.
Rao was born in Akkulapeta near Amadalavalasa in the Madras Presidency (now Andhra Pradesh) to Boddepalli Sitaramaswamy and Annapoorna. He studied at Vizianagaram College and Pachaiyappa's College in Madras. He was married to Seethamma and had three children (two sons and one daughter). His work contributed to the upliftment of backward castes in north Andhra. A statue honoring him was unveiled at Kotharoad junction in Akkivaram panchayat, and the Vamsadhara project on the Vamsadhara River in Srikakulam district was named after him. He passed away in Visakhapatnam in 1992 at the age of 68.
