Black Swarm
Black Swarm is a 2007 Canadian suspense film directed by David Winning and the ninth movie in the Maneater series. It stars Robert Englund as a mysterious beekeeper with a secret in the town of Black Stone, New York. The story follows a widow-deputy sheriff, Jane Kozik, who moves from Manhattan to Black Stone with her nine-year-old daughter, Kelsey. Soon after they arrive, a homeless man is found dead in the shed of Jane’s blind friend, Beverly Rowe, prompting investigators Devin Hall and entomologist Katherine Randell to get involved. Devin is Jane’s brother-in-law and former boyfriend, and Jane still has feelings for him. Meanwhile, Kelsey befriends Eli Giles, a scientist who has developed genetically modified wasps for the army and is trying to reverse the program.
When the wasps attack Black Stone, Jane, Devin, and Eli team up to stop the swarm. The film was shot in Montreal and nearby towns in July and August 2007 and released on December 7, 2007. It runs 90 minutes and was later released on DVD by Genius Entertainment on February 3, 2009. Critical responses were mixed, with some reviewers noting it as an above-average Maneater entry, while others criticized its CGI and plotting.
