Bill & Peter's Bogus Journey is the 13th episode of Family Guy’s fifth season, which first aired on Fox on March 11, 2007. Written by Steve Callaghan and directed by Dominic Polcino, with guest appearances by Barclay DeVeau, Roy Scheider and Wally Wingert.

Plot
After a visit to the aquarium, Peter tries to get physically fit but experiences trouble when Bill Clinton’s car breaks down outside their house. Peter ends up lifting the car without a jack, which leads to a serious hernia and hospitalization. While recovering, Peter becomes depressed at the thought of getting older, and Bill Clinton encourages him that aging is a state of mind. The two men grow close, spending time together and getting into trouble, including smoking marijuana and attempting to steal a pig.

Lois confronts Peter about Bill’s influence, and when she learns she had an affair with Bill, Peter leaves Lois and stays with Quagmire. Lois urges Peter to sleep with someone else to mend their relationship. Peter nearly sleeps with Barbara Pewterschmidt, Lois’s mother, but ultimately refuses. He then goes to Bill to end their friendship—and ends up sleeping with Bill, which complicates things but momentarily bridges the rift with Lois. Meanwhile, Lois grows tired of Brian’s mess in the yard and pushes for toilet training, while Stewie and Brian try to learn to use the toilet. They buy a Roy Scheider–hosted training video, which proves to be traumatizing. Lois makes Brian wear Stewie’s diapers to keep him from defecating in the yard. The end credits show Brian pretending to use the toilet while the others are distracted, leading to a finale involving Mayor West and Brian’s waste.

Production and reception
The episode was written by Steve Callaghan and directed by Dominic Polcino, with supervising directors Peter Shin and James Purdum. In addition to the regular cast, guest voices included Barclay DeVeau and Wally Wingert, with Roy Scheider appearing as himself in the toilet-training video. The episode drew about 8.05 million viewers in its original broadcast and earned a 2.8 rating in the 18–49 demographic, placing it against The Simpsons in the same time slot.

The episode generated controversy from Katrina evacuees who complained that Quahog’s portrayal as an Atlantis-like city was inappropriate. Critics gave mixed reviews: some enjoyed certain moments, while others felt the main plot was unfocused or relied on over-the-top gags. IGN’s Ahsan Haque gave it 7.1 out of 10, noting some funny moments but too many unfunny jokes.

Reference and themes
The title is a nod to the 1991 film Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey. The episode features a blend of political parody, family dynamics, and crude humor, including the Clinton cameo and the toilet-training thread.
