Bemm River, Victoria
Bemm River is a small town in East Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. In 2021, about 72 people lived in Bemm River and the surrounding area. The town sits on the north-west shore of Sydenham Inlet. The area to the north is state forest, with Cape Conran Coastal Park to the west of the inlet and Croajingolong National Park to the east.
Bemm River is known for its bream fishing and is nicknamed “The Bream Capital.” The town has tourist accommodation, a general store, and a pub that serves meals. There used to be a local radio station on 90.9 FM that broadcast during school holidays.
The Post Office in Bemm River operated from 1911 to 1920 and again from 1933 to 1982.
Geography: Sydenham Inlet is a natural coastal waterway that opens to the Tasman Sea. It is fed by the Bemm River from the west and the Little River from the east. The inlet is about 4 km from the beach and about 10 km from Py-yoot Bay.
Location: about 431 km east of Melbourne, 145 km east of Bairnsdale, 59 km east of Orbost, and 38 km southwest of Cann River.
