Beijun 204-class dredger
Beijun 204-class dredger is a little-known naval auxiliary ship in service with the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). The class is named after its first vessel. The exact type remains unclear, and as of the mid-2010s only one unit has been confirmed in active service. Unlike other dredgers, Beijun 204 can perform floating pile-driving missions with two piles, one on each side of the ship.
Beijun 204-class ships are designated with two Chinese characters followed by a three-digit number. The second character, Jun (浚), means dredge, reflecting its role. The first character shows which fleet the ship serves with: East (Dong, 东) for the East Sea Fleet, North (Bei, 北) for the North Sea Fleet, and South (Nan, 南) for the South Sea Fleet. Pennant numbers may have changed over time with updates to naming conventions.
There is also a similar, little-known class called Dongjun 417 dredger that uses the same two-character-plus-three-digit designation and has only one unit confirmed in service.
