BattleHack was a series of global hackathon contests organized by PayPal. Participants solved local coding challenges, and the top prize winners earned an axe trophy and a place in the world finals to compete for $100,000. Participants owned the apps they built during the contests. The events ran from 2013 to 2015, with the last competition held November 14–15, 2015. In 2016, PayPal/Braintree shut down the developer relations program, including BattleHack. Although there were talks of a return, the BattleHack domain expired in January 2018 and the event has not resumed.
