Bad Girl (Confessions of a Shopaholic song)
Bad Girl is a 2:28 pop-R&B track by the Pussycat Dolls for the Confessions of a Shopaholic soundtrack, released February 10, 2009 through Hollywood Records. It was written by Jamal Jones (Polow da Don), Chris Brown, Ester Dean, Darnell Dalton, Lamar Taylor and Jason Perry, and produced by Polow da Don. The song talks about a shopping addiction, especially wanting shoes and handbags.
Earlier, Rihanna and Chris Brown recorded their own version of Bad Girl for the movie, but it wasn’t used on the soundtrack. Their version leaked online on January 6, 2009 and reached number 55 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Hollywood Records’ decision to feature the Pussycat Dolls drew mixed reactions: some critics praised the Dolls’ sultry, energetic cover, while others criticized the move.
Polow da Don explained that the idea came after a meeting about the movie with Jerry Bruckheimer, and that he, Rihanna and Brown recorded the track in about 24 hours. He described the studio work as collaborative and fun, with ideas flowing freely.
The song’s lyrics describe an obsession with shopping, especially fashion items, with Rihanna delivering parts of the song and Brown delivering a closing rap.
