BCL Limited
BCL Limited started as Bamangwato Concessions Limited, a copper mining company in Selebi-Phikwe, Botswana. It was formed in 1956. In 1959, an agreement signed by African Authority Rasebolai Kgamane, along with Seretse Khama and Oteng Mphoeng, allowed BCL to begin prospecting. In 2004, the company renamed itself BCL Limited when Botswana restructured state-owned firms to shed ties to tribes. The mine closed in 2016 due to low copper prices, leaving more than 5,000 people unemployed.
