Andy Kindler (born October 16, 1956) is an American comedian and actor from New York City. He played Andy, a sportswriter and friend on Everybody Loves Raymond. He has been a regular on the Late Show with David Letterman, contributed to The Daily Show, and performed on HBO. He also voices characters in animated shows, including Dr. Katz, Home Movies, and Mort the mortician on Bob's Burgers.
Kindler grew up in Whitestone, Queens, the son of Lawrence and Joan Kindler. He had a brother and a sister who died in 2020. His family is Jewish, and his mother became a Quaker when he was 15. He went to Bayside High School and studied at Binghamton University, where he planned to become a classical musician and acted in theatre. After college, he moved to Los Angeles and began stand-up in 1984.
His stand-up often satirizes the comedy world. He roasted several famous comedians at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal in 2012. He was a judge on Last Comic Standing in 2010. He hosted the live taping of Megan Koester's comedy album in 2018 (released in 2019). He also hosted seasons 4 and 5 of the Hulu series Coming to the Stage (2018–19).
Kindler has released comedy albums: I Wish I Was Bitter (2010, recorded in 2003) and Hence the Humor (2020). In 2022, he performed the first live stand-up set filmed as a hologram. He is best known for playing Andy on Everybody Loves Raymond and has appeared on Wizards of Waverly Place as Chancellor Tootietootie. He is sometimes misremembered as the WWE character Jamison (that role was played by John DiGiacomo). He plays a fictionalized version of himself on the IFC series Maron. He co-hosts the Thought Spiral podcast with J. Elvis Weinstein and has appeared on The Majority Report with Sam Seder.
Personal life: He has been married to Susan Maljan since 2002; they have been together since 1992.
