Andrea Meneghin
Andrea Meneghin (born 20 February 1974 in Varese) is an Italian former professional basketball player and current coach. Standing about 2.00 m tall, he mainly played as a shooting guard and small forward. He spent most of his career with Pallacanestro Varese, with a stint at Fortitudo Bologna from 2000 to 2002, and also played in the EuroLeague with both teams.
In 1999 he helped Varese win the Italian League, the club’s first league title since 1978. His individual honors include Mr. Europa (1999), two FIBA EuroStars (1998, 1999), the EuroLeague steals leader (2000), Italian Supercup MVP (1999), and Italian Supercup winner (1999). Internationally, Meneghin was part of Italy’s EuroBasket 1999 gold-medal team and was named to the EuroBasket All-Tournament Team. He also played for Italy at the 1998 FIBA World Championship, the 2000 Olympic Games, and the 2001 EuroBasket.
Meneghin began his coaching career in 2006–07 with Pallacanestro Varese as an assistant and later worked with their youth teams; he has continued coaching within the Varese organization. He is the son of Dino Meneghin, one of Italy’s greatest players, and even faced his father during the latter’s final season.
