Ampco Pittsburgh
Ampco-Pittsburgh Corporation is a public specialty steel maker based in downtown Pittsburgh, founded in 1929. It is a group of several smaller steel companies organized into two product segments. The Forged and Cast Rolls segment includes Union Electric Steel, the world’s largest producer of rolled steel for the cold-rolling process, and Davy Rolling Company, which makes cast, heavy-duty, and specialty rolls. The Air and Liquid Processing segment includes Aerofin (steel coils for power plants, oil, and HVAC), Buffalo Air Handling (metal plating, parts, and fans for ventilation and refrigeration), and Buffalo Pumps (industrial pumps). The company trades on the NYSE as AP and is led by CEO John S. Stanik. In 2009, Ampco-Pittsburgh reported revenue of about $299 million, operating income of $46.7 million, net income of $27.8 million, with assets of $472 million and equity of $179 million, and about 1,300 employees. It should not be confused with other Ampco companies in Milwaukee, Miami, Switzerland, or Dallas. In 2008, chairman Robert Paul became a minority partner in the Pittsburgh Steelers to keep Rooney family ownership.
