Amarar tribe

Amarar, also known as Wagada' Amaraar, are a nomadic Beja people. They live in the mountainous area west of the Red Sea, from Suakin north to Eritrea toward Sudan, in the Atbai region and mainly in Ariab. They are bordered by the Ababda and Bisharin Beja to the Nile and by the Hadendoa to the south. The tribe has four large divisions: Weled Gwilei, Weled Aliab, Weled Kurbab Wagadab, and the Amarar proper of Ariab. The Wagardha' also settle in Sudan, Eritrea, and Somalia. They are said to trace Quraysh lineage through Ammar Aqiili and to be descendants of an invading Arab army. They speak a Beja language form with fewer loanwords than some other Beja groups.
